However, amidst the economic development, environmental degradation has been inevitable. The country's dependence on the manufacturing and industry sector cause a negative spillover in the form of air and water pollution, global warming, and ozone depletion (Malaysia 1-6). In order to promote sustainable development, Malaysia join forces with the United Nations to launch a fourfold program called Vision 2000 which is geared to address the environmental impact of development. These four strategies include: conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity; access to sustainable energy services, frameworks and strategies for sustainable development, and national/sectoral policy a nd planning to control the emission of ozone-depleting substances and persistent organic pollutants (UNDP Malaysia 1-4).
